For Sunil, Mary Kate, and their daughter Anavi, a love of the JMZ started with weekend visits and a little girl who fell in love with the animals.
“She loves animals, and the way the staff care for them is inspiring to all of us,” the family shares. Anavi has since become a JMZ Zoo Camp regular, and the hands-on nature of the museum has become a family favorite. “Inside the museum, we love all the exhibits where you are not just allowed but encouraged to touch everything.”
For Sunil and Mary Kate, science education is about igniting a lifelong sense of wonder. “We believe it’s wonderful to start with curiosity and maintain that hunger for understanding how the world works — for kids and for adults,” they say. “Science education done right can pull everyone into an engaging subject and light the spark of curiosity.”
It is that spirit of curiosity and connection that inspired the family to support the Friends. They also want to give a special nod to Zoo Ambassador Lee Harper, whose gentle way of engaging with children has made a lasting impression on Anavi and the whole family.
